Evaluate how your bursary provision benefits pupils while illustrating their value to your stakeholders, donors, and school community.
ImpactEd Evaluation is developing a bursaries impact framework to help independent schools measure, understand and demonstrate the impact of their bursary provision and fundraising activities. Having worked with a number of leading schools to consider how they evaluate and report on their bursaries offer, we’re now developing a tool for the sector on bursary impact.
Get in touch to participate in our upcoming pilot scheme to trial this framework. Plus, be the first to hear key findings from our upcoming roundtable event and access best practices from other schools.

Many independent schools have long-running bursary provision, with a range of different approaches used. Some schools prioritise full scholarships to a smaller number of pupils, while others choose to subsidise for a larger number.
There is no strong evidence on the effectiveness of different approaches, though bursaries can be a significant investment.
Potential changes to tax status have heightened the emphasis on independent schools’ public benefit, but understanding the true impact of bursaries has been a challenging area for some time.
At ImpactEd Evaluation, we work closely with schools to help them understand and evaluate the impact they’re having with programs and initiatives. With our School Impact Platform that easily integrates with your MIS, independent schools can gather, analyse, and utilise their pupils’ data effectively and compare the progress of these pupils supported by bursaries to other pupil groups.
As schools continue to articulate their impact, we’re developing the Bursaries Impact Framework to help Independent School Leaders measure and demonstrate the impact of their setting’s bursary provision specifically. This will include:
Proposed impact measurement tools to capture the impact of bursaries on recipients and the wider school community
Supporting resources to help schools in evaluating bursaries
Expert guidance on analysing and reporting on bursary data
What makes a successful bursary scheme? How do school leaders evaluate the effectiveness of their bursary programs? Learn from the discussion at our recent roundtable event where Development Directors and those overseeing bursaries from 13 independent schools shared their expertise and experiences.
At ImpactEd Evaluation, we recognize the importance of bursary provision in independent schools and the need for better understanding and communication of its impact. This roundtable discussion was the first step in gathering best practices to inform our Bursaries Impact Framework. Read the full article to discover key insights from the event, including aligned aims for bursaries, diverse evaluation methods used by schools, and common barriers faced in measuring impact.
"The insights that ImpactEd have provided for the OX14 have been really valuable. They’ve helped us keep impact assessment at the core of the partnership.”
